Dishes and Gospel Music

The counter is piled with scraps and napkins...dishes...and almost-empty cups of milk.

Cavan is still sitting in his usual spot (because he talked non-stop through dinner and isn't even close to finished)...the rest of the crew is off brushing teeth and getting ready for stories with Dad.

And I ask the question he's waiting for:
"Cavan--what do you think we need?"

Cavan quickly replies: "We need a little 'Jesus Is the Ticket to Heaven.'

That's my cue to blast the ipod downloads as we dance and sing (and wash dishes) to our gospel favorites.

Regina Belle singing "God is Good"
The Edwin Hawkins Singer's "Oh Happy Day"
Fred Hammond's "Celebrate (He Lives)"
Dorothy Love's "I Won't Let Go"
Etta James singing"Down By the Riverside"

Too many to name...

Why do they hit home with us?
It's a special bond that Cavan and I share.

I think it's because you can't listen without responding.

Your heart sings.
Your feet jump.
Your hands clap.
Your body moves.

And with everything in you...God is praised!

Dishes and Gospel Music...
A special connection...for a six-year-old and his Mama.
