Some New Year's Goals...in no order of importance:
1) To be more consistent in writing--I love to write and it helps me process what God is teaching me through life.
2) To be more consistent in reading--to the kids, with friends, by myself, with Jason...
3) To read through the Bible as a family--We each started a reading-level-appropriate Bible plan on January 1st and if we stick it out to the half-way point in June, we're going to celebrate by going to the Great Wolf Lodge for a night.
4) To make walking with friends a priority. God has used those walking/talking times to carry me through so much over the past 10 years.
5) To attempt a vegetable garden again. I skipped last year and just did flowers, but if Anne-Marie is willing to help me again (she's my go-to-gardening-expert) then I'm ready to give it a whole-hearted effort.
6) To spend less time on the computer--thus the delay in this "New Year's Resolution" post. I'm not sure how this one is going to mesh with resolution #1.
7) To hatch either duck eggs or chicken eggs. Cavan received an incubator for Christmas and as a child I hatched a duck, Gilbert, who actually emerged on Easter morning. It was an amazing experience!
8) To set aside Thursday evenings for our family "Little House on the Prairie" night. Jason gave me the whole 10 year series for Christmas and we've watched three together already. I cried in every single one. The kids LOVE Nellie Olson and every episode has sparked great discussion.
9) To aim for healthier meals and food in general. Less processed. Less sugar. Just read Miles Hassell's book "Good Food; Great Medicine: A Homemade Cookbook". He is a doctor with St. Vincent's and a clinical instructor who trains internal medicine residents. He's not extreme, just very practical. It was a good after-the-holidays read. Probably would've been discouraging to read prior to Thanksgiving/Christmas.
10) To get back on a cleaning schedule. The last 3 months have been one huge "lick-and-a promise".
11) To set aside time to spend with Jason (without the little guys). Just needs to happen somehow. I'm working on a plan for that one.
12) To develop closer friendships with some of the specific people we know God has brought into our lives. They know who they are and they have been a gift to us!
13) To make smoothies for the kids--they've asked me for smoothies this whole last year, but someone...decided that he wanted to grow moss in his faux river bed...and wrecked my last blender by combining moss spores, beer and dirt (I guess that's supposed to cause moss to grow). I now own a new blender, so we had fun making berry smoothies this afternoon.
14) To spend more time outdoors. We made this a goal for the kiddos' last year and now it's time to join in (see recent post on Nature Deficit Disorder).
15) To teach Buddy to talk...or at least whistle (see recent post introducing Buddy).
16) To learn more sign language with Laura.
17) To finish Lydia's baby book...I'm at least fairly close to caught up.
18) (I'm leaving this one blank because I'm sure there will be more).
