I guess I can't really claim my love for Andree Seu's books is "recent" because this is probably the fifth time I'm reading through her collection of essays. I also can't really say which of her books is my favorite because they are all excellent. Won't Let You Go Unless You Bless Me is the first of her three humble, articulate, thought-provoking and brutally honest collections. Seu is also a reoccurring writer for World Magazine and the first place I turn when World shows up is to the back where I know her essay will be.

I discovered Rachel Jankovic's book Loving the Little Years in the fall...and enjoyed every minute of it...the small print says "motherhood in the trenches" and Jankovic does not gloss over the real, day-to-day experience of a having little ones. She brought it all back for me--the dirty diapers, the markered walls, the car battles, sleepless nights....and she also rekindled the memories of how precious those years truly were when we had several little guys around. We're heading back into that stage with Lydia and this book was such a good reminder of who and what I want to be as a mommy. I also love the fact that it's divided into short, read-able essays....for those of us who have the attention span of a toddler.

I had Long Story Short saved in my Amazon cart for about a week, but was balking a bit at the price. So it was extra fun when my friend Anne-Marie surprised me on my birthday with a copy she found on sale. We're only a couple of weeks into it--but I think it just may be my favorite devotional we've gone through so far. Now that I have it in hand....I'd go back and pay full price in a second!

Our boys got The Action Bible for Christmas from Grandma and Grandpa and they haven't put it down since...if you have elementary age boys who enjoy comics....this is a must!
This is Volume 1 of Dave and Neta Jackson's Hero Tales--one of the series that Jason has enjoyed reading through with the kiddos. There are 4 books in the Hero Tales series and one that specifically focuses on African American heroes.
From Amazon's description:

Each volume and biography section follows a similar format so our kiddos know the perfect cue for yelling "LET'S TALK ABOUT IT !!!" in unison at just the right moment. The "Let's Talk About it" section is my favorite part because with thought-provoking questions....good discussion connecting real life with spiritual faith and choices is inspired.
