Because--
It meant we took a long bike ride.
Me and my little #3, riding to the nearest other Redbox to turn in our movies.
I gave him the choice...of either walking back and driving...or taking our bikes and--
He chose his pedals.
And I'm so glad.
On the way there we heard a herd of birds--
chirping and chattering and paused to see the cause.
A regal hawk--so still and silent--landed nearby.
The mama and daddy birds frantically squawked at the hawk...as their six fluffy young ones made feeble fluttering attempts.
Because we were riding...
Pausing--
Not in a hurry,
We stayed until the hawk flew far away and we were free to leave--
With hope.
We ate a lot of bugs together.
They were out in swarms along the bike path.
We decided that next time we'd wear goggles.
And keep our mouths shut.
And I smile at the thought of me in goggles on my bike.
But--it makes sense--to keep the bugs out--
Plus, I'd wear pretty much anything for that little guy.
And he thought it was a good idea.
We passed an interesting crowd.
Interesting.
On our bikes--we passed them.
I waited for my favorite seven year old to ask if "she was a woman of the night".
He's been using that phrase recently.
Quite often.
We're still not sure where he heard it or what he thinks it means.
Probably means we need to take another long bike ride soon.
But he still yelled at them.
Yelled as we passed by:
Hi !!!
Hey--hi !!!
Bike weaving, hand waving, smile wide...
(In hopes of making a connection).
Connection.
Relationship.
Time spent.
Oh--how thankful I am that the first Redbox was broken.
And I'm thankful for so much more on this beautiful Monday morning...

Your list and photos make me smile. My youngest nephew has a 2 yr old Elmo birthday coming soon, too. Hope I can go. Too dry here, so firecrackers are outlawed at present. Glad you all can enjoy making memories with them. Grace and peace!
hey there.... just realised I wasn't following you ... so added my face :) .... looks like great summer fun.
Such a wonderful list of blessings!! I love that chess set! Do you remember where you got it?
Thank you for sharing! I love the chess set too, and I have a 6 year old who would love a chess set like that as well... may have to try to find one!
yes! love this story, love this list. blessings to you.
Thank you for all the kind words... :)
The chess set is from Costco Plus World Market? (am I saying that correctly?) but the kids bought it "for Jason" for Father's Day...it's an outdoors chess set, but they like that all the pieces are HUGE.
I think it was $30, but then $20 with their 10 off 30 coupon...I looked online for ya, but they have it listed as $50 online and it's out of stock :(
This is just beauty. Your bike ride reminds me of "To Think I saw It all on Mulberry Street"--only much, much sweeter! Wonderful what we find when we slow down, isn't it? And another that got me--the grandma and the scooter. Reminds me of a friends mother who on Halloween one year rode her grandson's scooter around the neighborhood in a spiderman costume. We still call her "Spidergram". The same grandma is battling ovarian cancer right now.
Beautiful moments. Gorgeous.
so often, I think of things that I feel are such an inconvenience, but really, if I look, even if for only a moment, I will find a hidden gift, waiting to be unwrapped.
I loved the sweet story and all the pictures were priceless. Lots of fun for you all!
Blessings to you!
Love this post! What beauty in each moment you described. Blessings, Kara!
Love your blog! Your family is beautiful and looks like they are certainly enjoying the summer days. I'm a new follower. Thank you for stopping by Loving Disney.

Oh, I love this title. It reminds me of when our cable went out because of a storm a few weeks ago. The things we found to do!
Praying for another big storm, or maybe I should just make a quick call to cancel for a bit!
