Burntwood Bees Honey Harvest

Our friends, Mark and Christie,
invited us over this morning to watch them harvest a batch of honey...

We all had an incredible time!

The process was so interesting and we came home with a jar of fresh honey. YUM !!!

~  Collecting honey from the hive ~

~ Time with a buddy...even sweeter than honey ~

 ~ Harvesting gear ~

~ Scraping off the top layer of wax to get to the honey ~

~ First tastes ~

My son, eat honey, for it is good,
and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.
~Proverbs 24:13

Gracious words are like honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body.
~Proverbs 16:24

~ Spinning the honeycomb to release the honey for collection ~

~ Even Jason took a turn...with an epi-pen in his back pocket ~

~ Running the honey through a filter ~

~ Beautiful new baby Naomi...as sweet as honey ~

~ Honey straight from the comb ~

The law of the Lord is perfect...
sweeter also than honey
and the drippings of the honeycomb.
~ Psalm 19:7,10

~ The honey's color depends on the harvest and what the bees have been eating ~
(left-overs from last year's harvest)

I thought Jason might come home wanting to take on bee-keeping,
but instead he mentioned wanting chickens (Mark & Christie have those too).
But that's a whole extra blog post...stay tuned.
Thank you so much for letting us join in the harvest !!!
We learned tons and had so much fun!
