It's Time for the Vaux Swifts !!!

The Vaux Swifts are back!

Tens of thousands of Swifts return year after year to roost in the chimney of Chapman Elementary School between September 1st and September 30th, from 6 -8 pm.

We've been going to watch them for three or four years now and it really is amazing to watch thousands of Swifts circle and circle until they finally form a tornado-like funnel and dive into the chimney where they sleep for the night.

I usually post photos afterwards, but decided this year to post before we go, just in case anyone is interested in joining our Annual Vaux Swift Crew.

If you are:
Pack a picnic dinner, bring some cardboard scraps (for grass hill surfing) and come on out this Saturday night, September 17th (or any night in September).

Can you spot the infamous hawk?

He appears yearly and attempts to catch a Swift for dinner, but they usually rally and chase him away to the sound of cheers from the crowd...

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
