Don't Listen to Yourself; Preach to Yourself

"The main art in the matter of spiritual living
is to know how to handle yourself.
You have to take yourself in hand,
you have to address yourself,
preach to yourself,
question yourself.
You must say to your soul:
'Why art thou cast down’–what business have you to be disquieted?
You must turn on yourself, upbraid yourself,
condemn yourself, exhort yourself, and say to yourself:
'Hope thou in God’–
instead of muttering in this depressed, unhappy way.
And then you must go on to remind yourself
of God,
Who God is,
and what God is
and what God has done,
and what God has pledged Himself to do.
Then having done that, end on this great note:
defy yourself, and defy other people,
and defy the devil and the whole world,
and say with this man:
'I shall yet praise Him for the help of His countenance,
who is also the health of my countenance
and my God’."

In Ephesians this morning...
I was reminded of these Truths to preach to myself
when myself wants to say otherwise:

--He has blessed me with every spiritual blessing (Eph 1:3)
--He claimed me through Christ (even before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:4).
--Through the cross of Christ, God sees me as holy and blameless (Eph. 1:4).
--I am His adopted child (Eph. 1:5).
--God has given me His grace (Eph. 1:6).
--In Him, I am redeemed and forgiven (Eph. 1:7).
--As God's child, He has promised me an eternal inheritance (Eph 1:11).
--He works all things according to the counsel of His will--
for my good and His glory (Eph. 1:11 & 12).
--I have hope in Christ (Eph. 1:12).
--God gave me the Holy Spirit as a sign-seal-promise-and-down-payment
of my future with Him (Eph 1:13 & 14).

"...that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the Father of glory,
may give (me) a spirit of wisdom
and of revelation
in the knowledge of Him.
That the eyes of (my) heart may be enlightened,
that (I) may know
what is the hope to which He has called (me),
what are the riches of
His glorious inheritance in the saints,
and what is the immeasurable greatness
of His power toward us who believe."

~Ephesians 1:17-19
