My husband and I sat down this evening to figure out a plan for reading the Bible this year.
In the past, we've used many different reading plans.
Justin Taylor's recent post suggests dozens of excellent options.
But we've decided to take it month by month.
And so below I've pasted our plan for January.
For Scripture memory, we're planning to follow along with the weekly verses that our kiddos' are working on for their school. We love that all of our children have the same verse to focus on each week. But in the past we've used the Foundation Verses and Fighter Verses from Desiring God Ministries.
In past years I've really appreciated--
Valley of Vision by Aurthur Bennet
A Year with C.S. Lewis (I pretty much read this one yearly).
Streams in the Desert by L.B. Cowman
365 Days with Wilberforce (this whole series is excellent, but Wilberforce is my all-time favorite).
And just in case you're looking for some great reading material to go through with your little ones, several of our current favorites are:
Long Story Short-- by Marty Machowski
God's World News-- from World Magazine (current events from a biblical perspective).
Get Wisdom-- by Ruth Younts
God's Names-- by Sally Michael
Mighty Acts of God-- by Starr Meade
Hero Tales-- by Dave and Netta Jackson (this whole series is so good).
I'm convinced that not much happens without a plan, but if you're not...
Please take a moment to read John Piper's plea from 1984 about planning for the New Year.

I love to read a few different daily books throughout the year.
This year's new read is Chesterton Day by Day-- by G.K. Chesterton.

Please take a moment to read John Piper's plea from 1984 about planning for the New Year.
Careful planning is part of what makes a person wise and productive.
Not to plan is considered foolish and dangerous.
This is true even though the Proverbs teach that we do not know what the future may bring.
"A man's mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps" (Proverbs 16:9).
The fact that the Lord is ultimately in control of the future does not mean we shouldn't plan.
It means we should commit our work to the Lord
and trust him to establish our plans according to his loving purposes...
...He (God) planned for our joy; we ought to plan for his glory.
~ John Piper
Blessings on a New Year of hope and possibilities...
because with Him all things are possible.
