*We are a family living in the Portland, Oregon area.
*I am Kara, the primary contributor to The Chuppies...though most of my writing is inspired by the rest of the crew...
*I met Jason in college and we have been married 15 years.
*We have 5 kiddos (4 here and 1 in Heaven). Our daughter, Selah, died from the disease Pompe in 2008 and we eagerly await time with her in Heaven someday.
*Three of our children are biological and two are adopted.
*Prior to being home with the little guys, I taught high school English, Speech, and was a Reading Specialist (though you wouldn't know it from all of the errors I find after I hit "publish").
*We homeschool part time (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and the big kids go to a school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The whole school follows this pattern. It's called a University Model.
*Our current pet status is: 1 dog, 117 stickbugs, 83 Madagascar Hissers, 2 guinea pigs and we currently have tadpoles.
*Right now I'm mostly sharing here, but I also write for The Better Mom, and No Ordinary Blog Hop (which is actually very un-ordinary...because in general...I'm not a fan of blog hops), and from time-to-time I get asked to write a guest-post elsewhere. Whether or not I can do it, depends on how far behind I am on the laundry...
*Above all else...we love God and desire to live for Him with an eternal perspective. We know our relationship with Him is completely dependent on the redemption that took place when Jesus died on the cross for our sins and was raised with triumphant victory over sin. We believe the Bible is God's Word and that God gave it to us as the ultimate authority in our lives. Our desire is to love God more and more, to find our purpose and satisfaction in Him and we ask Him to help us let our light shine before others, so that they may see our good works and most importantly, give glory to our Father who is in heaven
(Matt 5:16).
*We fail on a daily basis and are constantly thankful for 1 John 1:9:
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

Kara, I just want to say how thankful I am for you. Reading your blogs make me feel a little "closer to you" when such a big ocean divides us. In case you ever wonder, who reads your blogs and do they really matter? I do. And many others, I'm sure. And yes, your thoughts matter. Please keep writing, as I am most encouraged by your words. Love and miss you sweet and faithful friend. xoxoxo Ticiana

I am visiting from the Relevant Blog Bash at Women Living Well and your linky stood out to me. Read your introduction post and love the uniqueness and dynamics of your family. I also homeschool part-time and send my son to a traditional preschool the rest of the time. Trying to mesh home schooling and traditional school since I work outside of the home full-time. Check out my site when you have the chance and follow me on twitter and Facebook.

Hey Kara! It's me, Melissa, from your college days :0) Great to find you contributing your wonderful heart through this venue! I'm pretty new to the blogging scene, but just joined a great bible study over at GoodMorningGirls. I'm in Beaverton now, are you too? Would love to connect! Great to see pictures of you and Jason and all that God has blessed you two with.
Hi Melissa :)
Great to hear from you.
I'm going to write you back on FB because I forgot to add disqus to this page and am having difficulties with "replying".
But--you'll love GoodMorningGirls. Angela and Courtney also write for The Better Mom and I almost decided to do the Prov. 31 study this summer :)
